Journey of Arjun Mathur:

Arjun Mathur was born on 18 October 1981 in London and brought up in Delhi and Mumbai. He learned acting from Barry John’s Institute and Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.

Before making his acting debut, Mathur worked as an assistant director for various movies like Kyu… Ho Gaya Na, Mangal Pandey: The Rising, Bunty Aur Babli, and Rang De Basanti. Arjun Mathur grabbed his first role in Mira Nair’s short movie Migration and then, did Farhan Akhtar’s Positive. His first full-fledged Bollywood movie was Luck By Chance, in which he did a striking job. On top of that, he also appeared on a British Drama Series, Indian Summers.

Arjun Mathur: Taking challenges, crushing taboo!

Amassing mounds of appreciations for his nuanced acting in Made in Heaven, Arjun Mathur didn’t change his mannerism at all in order to play the character of a gay. He just went on with his natural skin and did what Zoya Akhtar wanted to bring.

He admitted during one of his interviews to be calm and maintain utmost composure is his motto. While talking about Made in Heaven, he gave full credit to his director as he firmly believes that women have a unique set of thinking and amazing gaze when it comes to direct a film.

Made in Heaven is not the only a movie where he plays the role of a gay man, but he has portrayed homosexual characters earlier in Onir’s I Am and Mira Nair’s Migration. With these path-breaking roles, Arjun Mathur dares to subdue taboo in a fresh and easy fashion. He is elated with the fact that new and challenging offers are coming his way and people in the industry started recognizing him.
