Bollywood has always been entertaining. It has never failed to enthrall people with its music, backdrop, dialogues, and yes, the protagonists typically termed “Hero and Heroine.” Also, Bollywood has maintained its decent place in the string of movies worldwide. For the successful creation of a film, the actors need to play their characters befittingly. At times it happens that the storyline of a movie is vulnerable and not up to the mark. Yet, a few characters in the film manage to hook up the audiences with their nailing performances. Grey shad characters like Gabbar, Mugambo, Loin, Shakaal, and many more have made a special place in our hearts. Hence, paying a small gratification to a few negative characters of Indian cinema, today, let’s take a quick preview of some more Bollywood characters that were so good in their grey shade roles that we hated them the most.
1. Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena, Agneepath
Sanjay Dutt reprised the role originally depicted by veteran actor Danny Dengzongpa yet the threatening looks coupled with Sanjay Dutt’s outstanding acting was no less than aghast. We bet you couldn’t agree more with this; Sanjay Dut aced the character of Kancha Cheena so exceptionally that people literally cursed him.
Shall we also give a special mention to the Kancha’s bulky physique? Certainly yes! Sanjay Dutt’s appearance, dialogue delivery, vile look, and gruesome laugh totally make this character one of the biggest villains of all time in Bollywood.
2. Jimmy Shergill as Bhagwan Das, Mukkabaaz
When he says, “Hum Brahman hain, aadesh dete hain,”- we knew already, this is the only reprehensible man making the life of Shravan (Vineet Kumar Singh) hell. Jimmy Shergill, who played the role of Bhagwan Das Mishra, adapted this evil character flawlessly. He is feudal, corrupt, dictator, chauvinist- an amalgam of absolute evil.
Plus, the bloodshot eyes which Jimmy Shergill naturally developed by not sleeping for several nights are worth appreciating and deserve all the applauds.
3. Rishi Kapoor as Rauf Lala, Agneepath
Ditching his charming image as a chocolaty boy in his young days, Rishi Kapoor mastered the role of Rauf Lala as an evil grin. The luminary actor played the character of a wicked man who has established an empire based on criminal activities like female trafficking. Agneepath is considered better than the original one guess the movie’s villains were one of the main reasons for this.
Interestingly, Mr. Kapoor rejected the role, assuming he cannot perform the character, but he did, and how!
4. Tabu as Nimmi, Maqbool
Tabu is among such actors we can totally rely upon! Well, she has aced the negative portrayals in the movies like Haider, Andhadhu, Jaal. Yet, the role we will always keep in the catalog of cult classics is Nimmi in Maqbool. She depicted the character of Lady Macbeth, an adaption of William Shakespeare’s 17th-century play. Nimmi is sinister, and she is insane yet gutsy, a don’s mistress who is secretly in love with Maqbool.
From a seductive and sensuous woman to a repentant expectant mother, Tabu aced this role with utmost competence.
5. Ashutosh Rana as Gokul Pandit, Dushman
When Ashutosh Rana portrayed the character of Gokul Pandit, a postman who is dangerous, lusty, serial killer, and a rapist, probably possessing all the shades of negativity, he was every women’s nightmare. This tremendous actor did his role so convincingly that people trembled with fear by postmen in real life.
His performance was so much effective that it could give you panic instantly. And yes, we cannot forget those cold-blooded eyes.
6. Priyanka Chopra as Sonia Roy, Aitraaz
Priyanka Chopra took Bollywood on the storm by playing the boldest character ever. She plays the character of Sonia Roy, a wicked predatory woman who plays the victim card trapping, an innocent man.
Priyanka’s husky voice garnished with her sensuous and glamorous looks made the character of Sonia Roy, a total winner. Also, let’s take a bow to Mrs. Jonas for taking this risk at her early career stage. Guess this is why where she is today.
7. Saif Ali Khan as Langda Tyagi, Omkara
When we recall the movie Omkara, the character of Langa Tyagi pops up in our minds immediately. Perhaps, it’s because Saif Ali Khan nailed the depiction of Langda Tyagi incredibly. Langda Tyagi has the art of manipulating people and making them trust him. He’s so evil that he has no regrets about what he’s doing. He has no mercy. In fact, provoked Omkara to such an extent that he kills the love of his life.
Langda Tyagi is greedy for power; he dumps his friend to get what he wants, making him the unalloyed culprit of the story.
8. Shah Rukh Khan as Rahul Mehra, Darr
SRK, the king khan of Bollywood, is an actor who does the role of antagonist and protagonist with equal perfection. He started the trend and made us believe an actor can do any role regardless of the character’s nature. And, hence, when we talk about the dark characters of Bollywood, we cannot skip Rahul Mehra’s character- An obsessed psychopath lover who is after Kiran and wants her by hooks or crooks.
SRK’s trademarked dialogue kkkkk…Kiran is even popular today and applauded with all the praise and gratification.
9. Prashant Narayanan as Dheeraj Pandey, Murder 2
Prashant’s acting gives goosebumps as he plays one of the darkest characters of Bollywood. He’s a misogynist who preys on people and murders them without any mercy. Prashant as Dheeraj Pandey decks up in red, does makeup, wears a wig, transforms as effeminate, and brutally butchers people like a buttered slice.
Prashant exhibited this character so impactfully that seeing him killed doesn’t give audiences satisfaction. Prashant’s portrayal saved this movie and earned him the tag of one of the iconic villains of modern Bollywood.
