Bollywood, a fraternity that conveys plentiful messages through the abstractions. Each year inestimable movies release and leave the final verdict on the audiences. Some despite being irrationally absurd get thumbs up from the public. Diversely, some being rich in content collapse miserably at the box-office. As a cinema lover, I have grown up watching enthrallingly satisfactory movies that now have got the status of a flop, disaster, or below-average. Today, Bollywood may have loosened its credibility in terms of its composition yet there are ample movies that undoubtedly deserved a green signal from the audience but failed. Hence, I am enlisting a few movies that totally deserve your views. Let’s peek into some Bollywood disasters that deserved a smashing hit.
1. Swades (2004)
It’s disheartening that movies like Happy New Year and Dilwale earn whooping collections at the box-office. But excellent movies like Swades falls flat at the ticket booth. Nowadays, we complain about content-driven films but when we had the opportunity to watch it, we simply had step-back. Swades is a story of NASA employee Mohan who visits his nanny in the village.
In the course of his visit, he figures out the difficulties and hurdles that villagers face for their livelihood. Thus, he dwells in the dilemma of whether to return to the US or to live in his country. Upon that, he mends his inner perception of his culture and nation. At last, he opts to return his motherland and continue refining the condition of the rural place in India. Directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, this film is outstanding in every angle. SRK’s emotive eyes and natural acting is a complete winner in my opinion. This emotional voyage did not deserve to be one of the Bollywood disasters. If you haven’t watched this treasure then do yourself a favor, give a watch to it.
2. Tumbbad (2018)
A mythological plot decked-up in a horror representation. Tumbbad depicts the greed and gluttony nature of a human being. Set in the backdrop of the early 1900s this fantasy movie has thrivingly shown the metaphor, myths, and hidden trove that has created huge delusion among the characters. Tumbbad is a journey explaining what gluttony can drive a person to. Stuffed with jaw-dropping performances, constant thread of rebellion in the story, the film amazes you throughout the hours.
Additionally, the gripping background score comes out as the silver lining of the same. Even with magnifying direction by Rahi Anil Barve and Anand Gandhi this piece of art bombed at the theatres. Well, I don’t want to disclose much for this movie as this masterpiece lay on claims to have your viewership.
3. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy (2015)
Today, when SSR has departed from this world, we can see mass-scale raising their voice for his place and contribution in Bollywood. But, when he was alive and bestowed us with a pure gem in the form of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, audiences took no notice of it. The movie is based on the fictional character created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is a story of a truth-seeker who spare no stones to find the veracity and candor. Sushant, not only did he played this character but he also lived this character. under the direction of artistry director Dibakar Banerjee Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is among those delights that people give a miss and later regret. Do watch it in the loving memory of a star that is now shining bright in the celestial sphere.
4. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018)
Three young friends takes the law in their hand and eradicate corruption from society. Yes, that’s what Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap transmitted with their leading-edge vision. This vigilante action movie has convincingly demonstrated the urge of a youth who wants to challenge the debased society and at the same time change the hidden wrong deeds of the society. Priyanshu Painyuli, Harshvardhan Kapoor, and the late actor-director Nishikant Kamat has done prolific work in this underrated movie. Wish people had watched this movie instead of the over-hyped movie of Harshvardhan’s sister Sonam’s Veere Di wedding.
5. Meri Pyari Bindu (2017)
Meri Pyari Bindu is a story of a writer who authored a novel based on the love for his childhood friend Bindu. This film beautifully portrays the bond of friendship, success, failure, and heartbreak. Unlike other love stories, this feature film has something different to offer but as like the other exceptional films this too misfired in terms of collection. If you are also involved in scribbling your thoughts and emotions in your words then this is a must-watch for you. The soulful narration, admirable chemistry in the backdrop of old Kolkata would win your heart.
6. Mukkabaaz (2017)
A love story surrounded by enmity and hatred. An awe-inspiring tale of an aspiring boxer who falls for a girl who is dumb. Mukkabaaz is one of the most engrossing movies in recent times. The cruelty of Jimmy Shergill, the innocence of Zoya Hussain, and the valor of Vineet Kumar Singh are on fleek. Anurag Kashyap has composed this movie in such a way that you can’t resist yourself to watch it again and again. The movie offers you a believable narrative of our common surroundings. From the deep & dirty politics, undying love, cruelty, the characters grow, stand, and fall. Every moment of the film is something you will enjoy and praise.
7. Kadvi Hawa (2017)
The adversities of farmers are nothing new. The complications and predicament they face are beyond our sympathy and understanding. Kadvi Hawa is a brilliant representation of the hazard of a farmer struggling hard for his survival is competently shown by the director Nila Madhab Panda. Howbeit, the vanquisher of this movie is Sanjay Mishra, who plays the role of a farmer’s father submerged in the stress of his son’s living in the barren land. The duo of Sanjay Mishra and Ranvir Shorey is an absolute rejoice to watch.
Perhaps, people who share I SUPPORT FARMERS don’t really look deep for opinions. Thus, Kadvi Hawa becomes one of the many great films that are Bollywood disasters.
8. Mukti Bhawan (2017)
Popularly known as Hotel Salvation in international film festivals. Mukti Bhawan is a story of father and son wherein the father believes that he is soon going to die hence, wants to live his few moments of life in the holy ghats of Varanasi and to eventually secure salvation. A dutiful son left with know choice has to oblige his father’s last wish and accompany him to the same. On the contrary, things don’t go the way they have thought resulting in huge turbulence for the son. The first-class act by Adil Hussain and Lalit Behl will leave you smitten.
9. Titli (2014)
Made under the banner of Yashraj productions this film failed to fetch the audience to the theatres. Although, possessing a unique storyline and annexing the name of a big production house it became one of the Bollywood disasters.
Titli is the story of a young boy who seeks to escape from the latching life oh his gangster family, however, he finds a little sigh and acquaintances after forcefully marrying a girl. An ensemble cast of Shashank Arora as Titli and Shivani Raghuvanshi as his wife and other characters like Ranvir Shorey and Lalit Behl certainly deserves a one time watch at least.
The story present forward what real life cruelty, situational hazards, and absolute chaos look like. In the most raw manner, Title gives you a few moments to stare in the eyes of disgust and adore at the same time.
10. Laal Kaptaan (2019)
Dressed in the attire of Naga Sadhu, Saif Ali Khan has given path-breaking performance in Lal Kaptaan. Its a story of a hunter who goes on a voyage to scout revenge for a transgression that took place in the past. The trailer of this movie garnered a lot of appreciation yet the film found lacking in terms of making money.
Frankly, Said Ali Khan has a row of Bollywood disasters. Though he has been an incredible performer.
11. Ankhon Dekhi (2014)
Prior to Kadvi Hawa, Sanjay Mishra accorded us with a sober yet appealing movie named Ankhon Dekhi. This film has propitiously demonstrated a man’s perception who renounce to not bother about what the society says and follow what he sees through his eyes. This movie is written and directed by the versatile actor Rajat Kapoor. Interestingly, he also played an eminent character in this movie. This movie may have been a disaster but have the complete right to belong in the index of great movies. Ankhon Dekhi is hands-down the most original representation of common families, their daily life issues, differences, disputes, and emotions. It showcases what a man can see when he looks ahead of the other people’s opinion and bow to the reality of a situation.
The film even after having a straight vision and amazing storyline proved to be one of the Bollywood disasters.
12. I am Kalam (2011)
Shattered dreams and destitute childhood is a story of many kids. I Am Kalam is a narrative of a
poverty-stricken small kid who desires to educate himself and be a nobleman like APJ Abdul Kalaam. Every time this guy comes on the screen, it is priceless. It feels sad to witness that prodigiously brainy movie like I am Kalam flops at the box-office. You can’t stop praising this beautiful movie once you watch it. The beauty of friendship, goodness, and cuteness of childhood would take over you.
So, these were the list of few movies that may have fizzled at the box-office but is completely deserved an audience. Indian Cinema is an enormous ocean of art and ingenious creation thus to pick up a few films from that ocean is a tough task for me. I so wished to mention about the movies like Lootera, Sonchiriya, Shahid, Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota, parched, Viruddh, and many more jewels that floundered but wrapping up the tabulate here, I leave the notion to you. Do let me know about your choices in the feedback section below.
So, these were Bollywood disasters that deserved a hit.
